International lounges: the most hassle-free way to navigate an airport

Friday, 11th May 2012

Holidays can be tiring. Yes, you go away to have fun and unwind, but by the end, you’re always looking forward to a good cup of tea and your familiar old couch. Certainly, the last thing you’ll want to deal with is killing a few hours at a foreign airport.

So, what’s the alternative? Well, why not book yourself into an airport lounge? You’ll get a comfortable space where you can just sit and relax, TV or wifi and free drinks and snacks. Your plane will be boarding in no time at all.

My first experience with an airport lounge was while I was travelling to a press conference in Copenhagen a few years ago. To this day, I’m still convinced it was by accident that my contact booked me a ticket in business class, which included access to a lounge.

I tentatively edged my way inside past the receptionist, who I was sure was seconds away from realising I was there by mistake and throwing me out. Inside, I found a cosy corner with a nice armchair and sat down with my laptop to use the wifi and catch up on my emails, trying simultaneously to look inconspicuous. Soon, I found myself glancing over the lid of my laptop to the buffet table, which was piled high with tasty-looking bacon rolls, and various coffee makers, little drinks fridges and liquor bottles that people seemed to be helping themselves to. Could they really be free?

I fear I didn’t take advantage of the lounge the way I wish I could have. This was something I regretted until I started working here at Holiday Extras, when I discovered that these lounges weren’t just for the super-rich, and you could actually add these on to the cost of your holiday for less than you’d spend on a meal out for two.

So what does this have to do with the end of your holiday? Well, HX don’t just offer you great deals on lounges at UK airports; with the addition of the Marconi Business Lounge at Bologna airport, Italy, HX can now book you access to lounges at 37 airports all over the world.

If you’re flying back from abroad, why not see if we have a lounge to suit you and take even more hassle out of your holiday? Click here to take a look at our range of lounges.
