Monday, 21st May 2012

Before your plane leaves the ground, if you don’t stay in a great hotel, you’ll regret it; maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life. Just remember, you’ll always have Gatwick. Here’s looking at you, airport hotels…

Here's looking at you airport hotels

…which is exactly what we’re doing. As part of our ongoing efforts to make your holiday as hassle free as possible, we’re looking at making sure you have the best-possible information at hand to make the right choice of airport hotel.

We’re sending our agents on a special mission to investigate every nook and cranny of the hotels we sell, so they can give you the inside track on the best places to stay. We’ve already completed our reviews of the Gatwick airport hotels and the results are up on our site for you to browse.

Stansted Radisson Blu pool

We’ve also been out to Heathrow to poke around the great hotels on offer there and these reviews will be ready for their grand unveiling soon. In the meantime, the HX team are off to Stansted and Luton this week to see just what’s available for your pre-flight stay.

HX people will be sleeping in the hotel beds, eating in the restaurants and drinking (in moderation) at the bars. Our crack team of multimedia experts will be going as well, to get some great images and even video of the hotels, so you can see exactly what you’re buying.

Angel Wine Tower Bar

Angel's Wine Tower Bar

Take the gorgeous Radisson Blu at Stansted. I’m the lucky soul who gets to visit and review this luxury four-star. I’ll be trying out the hotel’s fancy Italian restaurant Filini and its New York Grill Bar, if my appetite will stretch. Then I’ll have a drink at Angel’s Wine Tower bar, where acrobats will ascend the 13-metre wine tower at the centre of the bar to fetch me one of 4,000 bottles of wine that are stored there. After, I’ll retire to one of the hotel’s stylish rooms for a good night’s sleep. In the morning, I’ll be counting the paces along the hotel’s covered walkway to the terminal.

Meanwhile, over at Luton airport, another of our team, Ross Barnard, will be checking out the Holiday Inn Express, which is the closest hotel to Luton airport at just half a mile away. He’ll be trying out the power showers in the rooms and working out whether he prefers the firm or the soft pillows the hotel offers to all guests.

Of course, our other dedicated reviewers will be heading elsewhere at the two airports and you’ll be able to read all about their experiences very soon!
